Hiking in Hintertux

Suitable for hikers of all ages; start at the Sommerbergalm (2,100 m) and follow access road no. 324 to the Bichlalm (1,695 m), from where fantastic views of the Hintertux Glacier can be enjoyed on the sun terrace. Then continue along access road no. 17 back to the centre of Hintertux, or take trail no. 15 to the base station of the glacier lifts.

This scenic hike starts at the Sommerbergalm (2,100 m). Trail nr. 16 leads past mountain huts and along a path to „Waldeben“. This alpine pastureland is surrounded by cascading waterfalls and steep rocky slopes. After a small forest you will reach a fork in the trail. Nature lovers should follow trail no. 526 on a challenging descent past the famous Walfischmaul (Whale’s Mounth – an impressive rock fissure), the Schrauben Waterfall (a protected natural monument) and the Kessel Waterfall. Short cut: Where the path forks take trail no. 16 which leads straight through the forest and back to the base station of the glacier lifts.

Starting from the Sommerbergalm (2,100 m), walk along trail no. 324 to the Tuxerjochhaus. Those looking for an extra thrill can climb up to the Pfannköpfl (2,388 m) on a route which starts behind the Tuxerjochhaus. There is no predetermined path, but the relatively easy climb (grade 1+) to Pfannköpfl can be made over a small ridge and a number of stone slabs. The descent along trail no. 326 takes you through the picturesque Weitental, past lush green pastures and varied vegetation. The impressive 40 metre high Schleier Waterfall is one of the highpoints of this hiking tour. Walk along access road no. 17 past the Bichlalm or trail no. 15 through forests and meadows to get back to the centre of Hintertux. The natural habitat of marmots and chamois!

The Sommerbergalm (2,100 m) can be conveniently accessed by cable car.Trail nr. 326 will take you to your first goal of the day, the Kasererscharte. Trail no. 326 then leads you to your ultimate destination, the 2,541 m high Frauenwand. Magnificent views of the Hintertux Glacier, imposing Lärmstange and the Tux Alps await. Walk back to the Tuxerjochhaus, where you have the choice of taking the easy descent back to the Sommerbergalm, or follow trail no. 326 through the idyllic Weitental Valley back to Hintertux.

This challenging mountain hike leads from the Tuxer Fernerhaus (2,660 m) over stone, scree, snow and ice fields along trail no. 526 in a good 1¾ hours to the Friesenbergscharte (2,900 m). Magnificent views stretch as far as South Tyrol. After the ridge the trail leads steeply downhill, past a refreshing mountain lake and on to the Friesenberghaus (2,489 m). The descent initially leads through lush alpine pastures, before heading through dense forests of mountain pine and down to the Schlegeis Reservoir. After exploring the dam wall (131 m in height), a scheduled bus service takes you back to Mayrhofen, from where you can catch another bus back to Tux.
